It’s almost the end of 2020. And I have one question for you:

What brings you hope?

To me, it’s books. No matter how challenging 2020 has been, at the end of each day it was books that gave me hope for a better tomorrow. Every evening, we sit on Emma’s floor bed and read her books she picks. We connect over stories celebrating children and their families, animals and nature.

Today, I’ll share with you the 3 books that we’ve read so many times in 2020 that we all memorize them by heart.

The most beloved book of 2020 has become Hey Baby” by Andrea Pippins. Emma often talks about the boy from the book. She memorizes the whole book and likes to “read” it to us. See the review of the book in my previous post here.

Besides “Hey Baby” these are 3 books that we couldn’t stop reading in 2020:

My Amazing Day by Karin Fisher-Golton

What does one day in the life of a toddler girl look like? This book shows you exactly that. You’ll rediscover the ordinary things that make a child’s day extraordinary. For example, the sound of singing birds in the morning. Or the smell of different spices. The outdoor play among trees and the goodnight cuddles before going to bed. This book is a great reminder of all the seemingly “small” things we can be grateful for at the end of each day. If gratitude is something you want to model to your little one, you need to have this book.

Everywhere Babies by Susan Meyers

This book isn’t only a celebration of all the things babies do and experience. For example, dressing, feeding, playing games, or crawling. It is a celebration of all children regardless of their race and their family structure. The simple rhythmic text is followed with realistic illustrations. Both your child and you will relate to these pictures. They show the real unfiltered life of caregivers and their babies. For example, an illustration of a child chewing on his book. Or another one of an exhausted breastfeeding mom who passed out with her baby in one hand and a book in another.

My First Yoga by Sally Beets

Have you ever noticed how babies and toddlers do a lot of yoga without knowing they’re actually doing yoga? This interactive book walks you through a few basic yoga poses that you and your toddler can do together.

When I introduced the book to Emma, I showed her first how to unroll a yoga mat. Then we read the book together and we practiced each pose in the book. It’s fun to watch your child modifying certain poses and happily doing their own thing. We have had this book for several months now. Emma takes it out daily, unrolls the yoga mat and starts doing the poses. Sometimes, she asks us to join her. Other times, she has her stuffed teddy bear helping her. Have you ever seen a teddy bear doing Cobra pose? :)

I’d love some recommendations for future reading as well so please share in the comments below which books you and your child enjoyed reading this year?
