CHOCOLATE MOUSSE SNACK

Ingredients:

  • 6 dates (pitted)

  • 1 avocado

  • 1/2 cup of raspberries

  • 3 tsp cocoa powder (you can substitute with carob powder)

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)

Blend all ingredients. Add more water if the pudding is too thick. Let cool in the fridge. Enjoy!

How can you involve your toddler?

  • Pre-measure all ingredients ahead of time and have them at hand. You can place the ingredients you need on a tray. This helps the child with order and keeps everything contained.

  • Place a colander in a sink and let your child wash raspberries.

  • Transferring ingredients - let your child transfer the ingredients into a blender (if safe to do so). Raspberries and avocados are easy to transfer. When adding dates into the blender, beware that your child might try to place the whole date in her mouth. This could be a choking hazard. You might also decide to add cocoa powder by yourself.

How can you include older and more experienced children?

There are many more possibilities for older children. They can...

  • Read the recipe

  • Gather all the ingredients

  • Write a shopping list if you don’t have all the ingredients at home.

  • Pre-measure the ingredients

  • Pit the dates

Additional tips to keep in mind when cooking with kids

  • Include and awaken all senses when cooking with your child. Let him hold, smell and taste the ingredients (if applicable).

  • Name each ingredient you’re using. The older the child is, the more information you can give him. You can talk about the origin of the foods, how they are grown and harvested etc.
