Healthy 4th of July Popsicles

With rising summer temperatures, we’ve discovered the beauty of making our popsicles. Making popsicles is not only a fun, practical life activity for summer. It's a great way to keep your little one hydrated during hot days. Is your child familiar with cutting and pouring? This recipe will help them to practice both of these skills. If you have a young toddler, you can still include them in making these popsicles. They can wash the fruits you will be using and pour them into the molds.

Bonus, if you plan to celebrate the 4th of July, these popsicles with their patriotic colors will make a healthy dessert for your visitors.

4th of July Popsicles

Ingredients:

  • strawberries (hulled and cut if your child has no experience with cutting)

  • raspberries

  • blueberries

  • coconut water

Instructions:

Notes:

  • Always meet your child where she is at. I cut the strawberries into halves so they would be easier to cut. Emma has some experience with cutting with a knife but it’s still very challenging for her. Halved strawberries will help her be more successful.

  • Pouring coconut water: expect spills. I filled Emma’s pitcher with coconut water. Then I showed her the molds and pointed to the place where she needs to stop pouring. Knowing when to stop pouring proved to be more challenging than I expected. We had a lot of spills that we cleaned up together.
